I earlier failed to recognise the 3.40 Try totequickpick On All totepool Bets Conditions Stakes (CLASS 3) as anything other than ordinary but having looked at the field this is potentially a very high class race. On Official Ratings this is a Listed quality contest in all but name and it is course specialist RESURGE who can capture the prize on a track he loves. Five career starts at the venue have yielded three wins and two seconds and time after time he shows a dramatic increase in form for his visit. Today will be his hardest race yet at the venue but the indication is he will be primed for the task in hand and show good form. As he is a seasoned veteran on this track it could well be worth implementing him in several forecast bets. The Godolphin record in this event is astonishing as they have had runners in this race in six of the last eight years and WON every time they have been represented! Today though they come to the track two Saeed Bin Suroor trained runners and one entrant trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni but each of them is in poor form and Resurge my just prove good enough to break their stranglehold on the race itself.

Banker Holiday Monday
Finally I have realised that I must keep a thorough record of my betting activities in future so that I have full knowledge of where and what type of race I am both making and losing money in and also at what time of year! It is commonsense really and I need to use it to focus my horse racing betting over the next 12 months. Today I hope to get my result taking off the to the perfect start with a bet at Epsom in the 3.05 Try totequickpick If You´re Feeling Lucky Handicap (CLASS 2) contest run over the minimum trip of 5f. It looks competitive but one horse does stand out from several race angles which makes him a compelling proposition to get his head in front where it matters.

Saturday Racing - Best Bets
Regular visitors will understand that the selections I am making currently are patchy at best. York really did end up being a nightmare but unlike trainer Mark Johnston I do not believe it was due to the poor going and unfathomable ground conditions. It was more than likely just poor judgement by myself as many outsiders were flying in and I had little or no part in any of them. That is not like me at all so I knew I must be due a rest! Meanwhile today Channel 4 racing has been chopped in half to make way for the ultra exciting Day One of the Athletic's Championships that interestingly other broadcasters did minimal bids for. Reason? No one watches Athletic's unless it is the Final of a 100 metre race. They think they get poor viewer ratings with horse racing then Channel 4 is in for a rude awakening this afternoon showing this shower of **** instead!!

Saturday Racing - Best Of The Rest
Having fully completed the Ebor research yesterday evening there is plenty more racing on this afternoon that wets the appetite. I have one runner from Chester to declare an interest in as well as two horses in the supporting races at York. All in all it could be another expensive day if I crash and burn but usually when I hit a trough on my form line graph a peak is not too far away! Nothing afterall is consistent in my life!

York Day Four - Ebor Selections
After a torrid third day betting on racing at the Knavesmire I am left with almost a sinking feeling. At one point on Friday evening I felt my semi conscious discipline was about to ebb away uncontrollably ready for the final afternoon ahead on Saturday. However I had a long hard think and came to the conclusion that with all the decently priced winners flying home over the last few days there is no reason to believe that I cannot find one myself on Saturday if I stick to my guns and read the form purposefully and try to keep it simple. Simple after all always wins the day in my experience.

York Day Three - Nunthorpe Stakes Day
I enjoyed the outing yesterday made more relaxed by the early winner when Bogarde took charge in the DBS Premier Yearling Stakes to open up proceedings in style. Events failed to progress from there with a couple of large bets not being up to scratch and Pintura just failing to keep a lead in a thrilling renewal of the Addleshaw Goddard Stakes handicap won by a fresh looking Navajo Chief. Today I am looking for an improvement as favourite backers are struggling at this meeting and although I am not a Bookmaker I take equal satisfaction in the knowledge that the Knavesmire gives outsiders a chance!

York Day TWO - Close But No Shergar
I head into Day Two of the York Ebor Meeting with the prevailing sunshine assisting me as I get my house in order ready for a visit to the Knavesmire. I find today's racing somewhat interesting compared to yesterday yet I went pretty close on a couple of occasions with my own personal bets including one very unfortunate (lazy and typically amateurish) attempt at a trifecta bet.

York Day One - Best Bets
The Ebor Festival begins this afternoon with the highlight on the card the Juddmonte International Stakes (Group 1) at 3.40. The supporting cast of races also offers an excellent mix of both handicaps and Group race action to wet our appetite further for the week ahead. I am betting from home this afternoon having taken the rest of the week off in the hopeful anticipation of gaining the value of a second wage slip this month over the coming days! Easier said than done but my selections for Day One are now ready to be explained.

Worthadd Worth Having
It was not until late last night that I made my final decision on which horse represented the greatest value for this afternoon's sublime looking Jacques Le Marois (Group 1) at Deauville later today at 2.55pm. Whilst Goldikova is in opposition Canford Cliffs finally overcame his biggest rival when they last met to confirm that at the age of 6 Goldikova is no longer improving and is possibly in slight decline. Given the ground conditions that were described by Roger Charlton on his twitter account as "very soft" this gives the opposition further encouragement that Goldikova, quite possibly, will not be at the top of her game.

Sunday Supplement - Flying Fillies' Stakes!
Not a great deal worth getting excited over in all truth this afternoon but one race in the UK does have promise and that is the 3.30 E B F "Showcasing" Flying Fillies´ Stakes (Listed Race) at Pontefract. Historically 3yo females despite representing a fair percentage of runners have offered little in terms of winning returns with just one winner coming out of the age group during the last decade. Interesting statistic that suggests the weight for age allowance of this race hardly favours the youngsters who are in receipt of a basic 4lb.

On The Way Back And Now On Twitter!
I am living proof that a brutal run of bad fortune on the betting front can make a person stronger and to help endorse that the bouncebackability phrase can be attributed quite accurately towards me. Only a fortnight ago I suffered a barrage of bad results over the course of the Glorious Goodwood meeting but since then some steady semi-focused betting has propelled me back where I want to be and that is On The Way Back!
Great St Wilfrid Preview
With my main bets already settled upon today I still have a small jar of 5p's ready at my disposal to bet on some of the feature handicaps this afternoon. The most notable of these is the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon which is a 6f dash where draw and appreciation for this style of track crucial to the success of those running in it. With Tajneed rated a mighty 104 by the handicapper surely something lurking amongst the other 19 runners can beat him at the finish?

Saturday Racing - Newbury Group Races Uncovered
Having already written up my weekend preview yesterday evening the only thing left to do now is find those typically fiendish value price winners. Hopefully there will be something running somewhere that speeds up the heart rate this afternoon by a few beats per minute. That is what we love about this sport afterall isn't it?
In this first installment for Saturday I am concentrating on the two feature races at Newbury with the CGA Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) and CGA Hungerford Stakes (Group 2) very high on my agenda this afternoon. These include a MAX bet for those gutsy or crazy enough to join me in what could be an afternoon filled with anxious moments.

The Quiet Before The Storm
Despite a relatively fancy winner last week when all aboard Dhaamer at early odds of 12-1 in the Watch Races Live At racinguk.com Handicap (Class 2) last Saturday at Haydock I still feel somewhat subdued after the Glorious Goodwood debacle late in July. As a result I have tried to keep my head down and away from the form reading in order to get ready for what will be some hopeful high impact betting action over the course of the forthcoming week.

Sunday International Selections
Racing this Sunday once more comes from abroad where the high class action takes place at Deauville in France and at the Curragh in Ireland. There is a feast of top class races on show and whilst I am keen to be involved I am once again avoiding large stakes for a second successive day.
Still To Come
I am alive but probably not living in the same timezone as many due to not going to bed until 5am. I am still going to be placing one or two bets in all likelihood today but I am not going to rush my form reading just to please my blog. A reasonable time to expect an update as a result of my late start is about 2pm. One of my selections may come in the fantastic looking Prix Maurice De Gheest - Goldikova (Group 1) at Deauville. This race starts at 2.45 so I do not have much margin for error with my blog post timing. Wish me luck! Hoping for another decent afternoon.....

Saturday Racing Preview - Haydock / Newmarket
I have not had sufficient time to both review the form in full and write up a compelling argument to keep the faith and follow my selections of the day. I have chosen to solely concentrate on the Haydock meeting as that is where I will be present this afternoon. However there are some nice handicaps on at Newmarket and then there is the gimmicky racing (not worth betting on) at Ascot which I have not given a moments time towards. There are only two races at Haydock however that meet my general criteria for betting purposes so it not going to be a very expensive day even if nothing lands. Phew! Though once on course my betting discipline is likely to expire quicker than a creme sponge cake in Asda.

Back After A Rest
I hope to be ready and alert in the morning as I bid to salvage a minor proportion of the desperate losses incurred during Glorious Goodwood. I will be in attendance at Haydock having never liked staying in to watch the absolute nonsense that is the Shergar Cup at Ascot. A ridiculous cross nations battle where each horse is given a jockey they have little or no experience with - a total farce in my view and a waste of betting research time!
Hopefully the three high class races on offer at Haydock including the Rose of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3) prove good quality events on Saturday afternoon. It is unlikely I will be betting big so soon after a poor run but if I find anything screaming at me at a price then I will not be ignoring it as I am definitely due a nice winner!
Update will be online before I set off to the course at Midday.
