Doncaster - Scarbrough Stakes - Runner Guide

The best race on Day One to perhaps have involvement in is the 3.10PM Scarbrough Stakes (Listed Race) which pits some of the old and new together in the sprinting ranks. Please read on for my Timeform style runner profiles and take note of how I feel it may turn out.

There are 12 expected starters for this galloping sprint race with several holding claims on the best of their form. Here is my guide and anticipated result for the race:

Captain Dunne - An established sprinter now who relishes a speed test. Front runner and has risen his standards to Group 3 level this year. If running to the best of his ability he will not be far away but a 4th place finish in this race last year is most likely only going to be bettered by a place at best this time around. Can make the frame.

Group Therapy - Has been backed when the odds were released on account of him being tipped up as potential value early at 9-1. He is abit of a hype horse and too often finds one too good. Second in this race last year and another contender that should make the frame again. Just not good enough to win though in my mind.

Humidor - Not raced for 41 days so may benefit from this outing. Resolute performer but this is a strong Listed event and he needs to improve on his best form to have a chance.

Medicean Man - Trainer hopeful of a good run but best form comes at Ascot and may not appreciate this easier test. Has had a month off to freshen up but seems to be a horse who is at his best after a recent run. One to swerve at the expected odds.

Dinkum Diamond - Only a 3yo but strong 2yo form saw him finish runner up in the Flying Childers (Group 2) over this C&D. A talented sprinter on his day and has been knocking on the door in Listed company this season. Due a change of luck and the way this race may be run could suit his style of running Considering his connections feel he is Group class he could be of interest if showing any slight improvement in form. Noteworthy that he has not been out of the frame in FIVE starts this season - Consistent!

Stone Of Folca - Ran on Tuesday and will be withdrawn in the morning one would think.

Anne Of Kiev - Running in this ahead of a tilt at the Ayr Gold Cup. This will be too sharp a test and run only intended to bring her on ahead of the valuable Ayr handicap over her favourite distance.

Breathless Kiss - Lacks the gears to get involved and would appreciate a stiffer 5f than this.

Duchess Dora - Similar form to Medicean Man and has twice been narrowly outpointed by that rival in two Ascot starts. Ran best of the rivals he reopposes this afternoon when last seen at Beverley but that race was run on soft ground and likely that she relished it more than her rivals did. Realistic place claims once more.

Aneedah - Has been off the racecourse for 75 days so may be in need of the run before pursuing lesser events over further. First try at 5f having ran over a mile as a 2yo last term. Would be an amazing training performance if she was to win.

Shoshoni Wind - Kieran Fallon takes over in the saddle which will be a bonus but even with his experience it should surely prove too tough a race for his mount. A filly on the upgrade who would surely benefit from a race against her own age group and sex. Will get hassled for the lead here and could be vulnerable as a result.

Bear Behind - The only 2yo in the line up as trainer Tom Dascombe attempts to take advantage of the colossal age for weight allowance. If he can start quickly as he often does he may be able to give some of the older horses a scare but with rivals breathing down his neck from the start he could wilt under pressure.

Good luck with your bets - here is my 1 - 2 - 3 Prediction:

1 - Dinkum Diamond

2 - Group Therapy

3 - Captain Dunne

Pundit Pointer:

3.10 - Dinkum Diamond (2pts WIN @ 6-1 William Hill)
